Weekly Recap

Our team recently transitioned from a two-week whole home organization job, straight into a kitchen, pantry & entry closet job for a family of young, elementary school age kiddos. The coolest part of this particular job was working to keep a strict eye on the overall budget, utilizing as much organizing product as possible that the family had previously invested in over the years and make it all as highly functional as possible for them.

Challenge accepted, we had a couple of delightful little helpers checking our progress throughout the job, sometimes needing to get a snack, but always very easily wowed by the work we were doing. (And I don’t know about you, but I tend to think that a 5-year-old’s praise is one of the highest forms of praise indeed.)

There are a few great things that stood out to me about this job and I wanted to highlight them.

1) Lazy susans really do make the most of tricky function spaces sometimes. We loved how they made such great use of these pantry corners not to mention making a great spot for bulky wellness containers that get used daily by this active family.

2) Door pocket systems are a busy family must-have in tight spaces (especially for all those darling little girl shoes). The best part is that they can be easily updated all year long with seasonal grab-and-go items like swim goggles, sunscreen and sunglasses in summer, and then, of course, gloves, hats and handwarmers in winter.

3) The pantry before and after shows a clean and simple design overall but if you look closely at the design, you will see that we created broad categories in generous bins, such as “pasta” and “dinner prep.” This makes it an easy thing for parents who are rushing around to pull out, grab what they need, then pop the whole bin back into place. Snacks in large bins are highly functional for growing kids to help themselves and learn some independence while being efficient and simple for parents to quickly see what needs restocking.

All in all, this job was really satisfying because we can see this family’s many activities taking center stage now, since everything in these high traffic zones have proper places now.

I cut my teeth on the organizing gig after a decade of this job in the glorious PNW. I learned the importance of form + function while working for my first organizing job, and then coupled that with learning the art of luxury and esthetics for my second job. Together, I enjoy bringing the balance of both previous companies to my clients here in Utah and finding ways to solve problems beautifully.
