“Pivot, pivot, pivot!…”
The constant words out of my mouth while working at the most recent Orderly job were, “Okay, let’s pivot.” I’m fairly sure my team was starting to expect it by the job’s end, and it was beginning to feel kind of hilarious. We were working on a whole home organizing project for a beauty of a historical gem from 1912. As anyone who has ever lived in a historic home can tell you, nearly everything was “not standard.” Thus causing continual pivoting with all plans and products.
The beauty of organizing these days is that you can find a product for just about any problem. Our team did just that. We jokingly refer to ourselves as efficiency experts, and problem solving is kind of our jam. For this particular project, our team tackled five separate closet spaces, all with their own sets of solutions. None of the shelves or drawers were the same measurements, making it rather tricky sometimes. We did a lot of measuring, pivoting from original plans, and leaving a space to give it some thought while we tackled other areas. But that is the thing – sometimes you need to pivot from the solution you had in your head, try something different, or even walk away and think on it a bit before the solution comes to you.
Life can be like that too, we think… but just like in organizing, it always comes together in the end. It works out, and often, the pivot is better than the original plan would have been.
